Solidarity with Ukraine – financial aid

Solidarity with Ukraine – financial aid

Our students and their families found themselves in a difficult situation due to the Russian aggression towards Ukraine. For that reason, the JU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs – in agreement with the JU Student Government and the JU Association of PhD Students – has decided to raise the maximum amount of the allowance. (Regarding both the JU and the JUMC).

Allowance from the Support Fund

Students and PhD students affected by the military conflict in Ukraine may apply for a raised allowance, regardless of their citizenship. The amount is determined in each case by the Scholarship Committee for the JU students or the Scholarship Committee for PhD students based on the information provided in applications.

An application should include information on the members of an applicant’s family, their income and the event which is a reason for applying. The more specific this information is, the faster a committee can make its decision. If possible, the event should be documented. If there is no possibility of providing any documents, an applicant should make a statement that describes the circumstances entitling for financial aid (suffered costs or loss, amount of lost income).

To ensure that persons in need receive help as quickly as possible, the frequency of the allowance payments has also been increased – they will be transferred four times a month now instead of two.

Who can apply for the support:

  1. Students who were admitted to studies in October 2019 and later,
  2. Students who were admitted to studies before October 2019, under the condition that they pursue their studies according to the rules for Polish citizens,
  3. PhD students – participants of the doctoral studies, under the condition that they pursue their studies according to the rules for Polish citizens,

The general limitations concerning the allowances’ admission are also applicable: the allowance cannot be granted to a student who has a Master’s title and those who has a Bachelor’s title if they are not beginning the first-cycle programme of study for the first time. A person is entitled to the benefits for no more than 12 semesters, including no more than 9 semesters at the first-cycle programme and no more than 7 semesters at the second-cycle programme. The foreign programmes of studies and titles obtained abroad are included.

The application should be registered in the USOSweb (Common Section => Applications), then printed and delivered on paper to the address stated in the USOSweb.

If a student or a PhD student cannot submit the application on paper, especially in case of being on the Ukrainian territory or at the Ukrainian-Polish border, it can be submitted in the USOSweb using its online-signing functionality (according to § 8.4.2 of the Order no 78 of the JU Rector of 1 October 2019 roku on: Regulations of the financial aid for the Jagiellonian University students and PhD students). If submitting the application on paper is impossible, an applicant shall mention that circumstance in the application – there is no need to contact the scholarships coordinator.

If applicants cannot declare an account number in PLN in a bank operating in the Republic of Poland, they should contact the Scholarships Office: stypendia@uj.edu.pl.

Decisions are delivered online, and the payment is realised after an applicant receives the decision.

More information on the allowance for students (including its amount in the academic year 2021/2022) is available here.

Allowance from the Jagiellonian University’s own funds

As a matter of urgency, a special allowance is being prepared for students and PhD students (including those studying in the doctoral schools) who are not entitled to allowances from the Support Fund. It would be disposed of the University’s own funds in the amount of up to 2500 PLN. The online admissions will be opened soon in the USOSweb.
